Abdominoplasty & Breast Reduction

Abdominoplasty & Breast Reduction

Frequently women who are undergoing a breast reduction will have abdominoplasty at the same time. These women want to know if there are any special considerations when having the two surgeries together.

One of the biggest problems you will face when having abdominoplasty and breast reduction together is that your ability to move, especially in and out of bed, will be limited. With a breast reduction you can't use your arm muscles, and with abdominoplasty you can't use your stomach muscles. It's tricky, but it's only temporary.

Learn to ask for help getting in and out of chairs and bed. Many women have found it easier to spend the first few days after the surgery in a comfortable recliner rather than in bed. If you are in bed, learn to roll to your side to get out of bed. It's tricky, but it's only temporary.

If you have abdominoplasty and breast reduction together, your plastic surgeon may want you to wear a compression garment that covers all your surgical areas.  You many need some help getting this garment on and off. Check with your plastic surgeon to find out his/her preferences.

In addition, be ready to take some extra time off from work. You should take at least 3 weeks off, preferably 4 weeks, to allow your body time to recover.
