I love this company for what they do for women and for burn patients and for the moral and informational support they have lent to BreastHealthOnline. They have spent untold hours on the phone with me talking about these things and are always there for me and for all of us if we have a question. Please visit them at http://www.silon.com if you have time - they do a really good job. I'm using some of their Oleeva on an area of hypertrophic that returned after my revision surgery. Bio Med Sciences, Inc – Innovation in Scar Management and Woundcare Bio Med Sciences manufactures several silicone-based technologies for scar management. While perhaps dozens of companies may offer silicone sheeting, BMS offer 3 types of silicone sheeting, silicone bonded fabric for garments, silicone bonded splinting materials and silicone bonded foam, all with regulatory clearance indicated for the prevention or reduction of hypertrophic scars. Our basic technology is called Silon®. Silon® is an interpenetrating polymer network of silicone and Teflon®. This is important to understand because if silicone is engineered to be soft, self-adhesive and compliant, it is a weak material that must be reinforced to maximize its useful lifespan. The Teflon® in Silon® is 17 times stronger than the silicone gel used in the sheeting and results in a very durable yet exceptionally soft and compliant product. Some silicone sheeting products are made with a “hard” silicone that does not need reinforcement but must be taped in place because it is not self-adhesive. Others may be reinforced with nylon or other mesh embedded in the silicone. Typically, these products may be partially adhesive on both sides and may begin to crumble after a week or two of use. Still other silicone sheeting products may include a membrane backer for reinforcement. These products are often more self-adhesive but may also suffer from silicone crumble after a short period. Silon-SES® – is a slightly adhesive silicone sheeting product that should last for months of normal use. This is a prescription only product and is most frequently used at burn centers. Oleeva Clear™ – is a transparent silicone-sheeting product that is self-adhesive on one side only. It is non-prescription and should last in excess of 4-6 weeks with reasonable product care. Oleeva Fabric™ – is a fabric-backed silicone-sheeting product that is self-adhesive on one side only. The fabric backing makes Oleeva Fabric ideal for use under clothing because it is less prone to roll as clothing slides over it. It is non-prescription and should last in excess of six weeks with reasonable product care. Silon-TEXÒ-- is Silon bonded to a textile. Used primarily in burn garments, it is also used in the cup regions of the FreshStart™ Bra. FreshStart is designed specifically for breast reduction patients. It can fit most patients comfortably and will last for the duration of treatment. If fit is an issue, BMS has a generous return policy.
