The International Confederation For Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery

When considering a plastic surgeon for yourself, it's imperative that the doctor be a board-certified plastic surgeon. By choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon, you can be sure that the doctor has graduated from an accredited medical school and completed five to seven years of residency, usually three years in general surgery and two years in plastic surgery.

Our International members can visit the The International Confederation For Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Website for a complete list of world wide plastic surgery societies.  All of the surgeons listed through this service are certified by their countries board of plastic surgeons.

At BreastHealthOnline we strongly suggest our International members visit The International Confederation For Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery website to help yourself find the best possible plastic surgeon for you. Also note, not all plastic surgeons are alike - even if they are board certified. You really need to arm yourself with a good list of questions and all the information you can going in to evaluate each doctor you see for yourself.

Please be careful when selecting a plastic surgeon, and never let a plastic surgeon who is not Board-Certified do your surgery.

Any doctor can take a weekend seminar on plastic surgery and call himself a plastic surgeon.  Only if your plastic surgeon is Board-Certified is he qualified to do your surgery. This denotes that he's had extensive training and testing in the field of plastic surgeries. Besides this, though, make sure that your Board-Certified plastic surgeon is well versed in the procedure for which you are seeking.

Typically, the more breast reduction or breast reconstruction surgery a surgeon does per week, the more experienced he or she will be. When looking for breast reduction you want a surgeon who is very skilled at it.  It is our opinion that the most skilled surgeons are doing 3-5 breast reductions or reconstructions a week. By taking the time to find a qualified surgeon you will reduce your risk of complications, and if heaven forbid anything were to go wrong, a highly-qualified surgeon is much more likely to care about your outcome and help you through it, not just blow you off and leave you in the lurch.

We counsel patients every day who did not do their homework on their surgeons, and how they wish they'd taken the time to be certain they had the right surgeon. Please don't let this be you.

Sometimes people will ask questions about 'out of country surgeries' - often offered at a reduced rate. We asked Dr. W. Grant Stevens his opinion about surgeries like this.  Here is what he wrote to us.

I have certainly heard of this and have seen some botched up plastic surgery from similar south of the border bargain surgery plastic surgeons. I would not recommend this as the patients have no recourse and have no way of checking for quality control. I have found that you usually get what you pay for and that you can always pay less for an inferior product.
