I am new to the board, but have been hanging out here for about a week.  I had my first consultation with  the PS on Tuesday.  N2N of right breast is 35.5 and left is 39.  Quite a difference.  My question is that PS told me I could have pedicle procedure or because of the size of the left fng.  He stated that he  probably would not be able to make me a c cup(my dream) unless I had the FNG, because of the amount that would have to be "pulled up and tucked"  Right now I am waiting on insurance approval so I have time to make a decision, just really confused.  DH says that is up to me and is completely supportive.  We did see pictures of FNG at the PS office when we met with him.  DH says just wants me to be comfortable and finally free from this pain. I know FNG is tough to go through, I guess my confusion lies in if FNG is worth it to go as small as I want to. Would like some input from those who have "been there".

Thanks in advance,

Twinsmom

Welcome to BHO !!! And the FNG board .
I had my FNG on October 24th 2001. I did not have a choice. I went from a 40DDD with alot of spillage to a 40C and I'm the happiest woman on earth ! I'm perky and bouncy and firm at the same time. I'm sometimes sad when i look at my FNG because my nipple bud is not the same . and the feeling is not the same either.  It is very tramatic ! But I would do it all again if I had to. I have no regrets.
Get as much information as you can before you decide. Because this is a life changing body altering decision !

Twinsmom,

Hello and welcome to BreastHealthOnline. It is great to have you here as you start your breast reduction journey.

I had my surgery on Oct 5th, 2001. I also had a FNG. I know you have a big decision ahead of you. Have you had more than one consult? It is advisable to have 2 or 3 consults.

It is great that you DH is so supportive. That means all the world.

Please make yourself right at home.

Hi Twinsmom and welcome to BreastHealthOnline.

Sounds like you have a wonderful husband so you've got a huge plus going into this journey!  Good for you and for him.

Generally notch to nipple measurements under 40cm and fold to nipple measurements under 20cm do not indicate the need for FNG.  Do you know your fold to nipple measurement?  I wonder if the PS you have seen is also looking at that number in trying to determine the need for FNG.

Just so you know, we do recommend at least 3 consults before making your final decision.  Some PS's might feel very confident in being able to do a reduction with your measurements and not doing a FNG.

There are indeed some healing differences with FNG, as well as the loss of sensation in the nipple/areola complex.  If breast feeding is an issue, women who have had a reduction using FNG are not able to breast feed in the future.  If you can avoid a FNG that would be great, but if you have consulted with several PS's, have been fully informed as to the possible outcome and all possible options, and decide that you will indeed have a FNG then that's wonderful as well.  There is nothing wrong with a FNG when it is warranted or when the patient decides to have one to achieve a final size more to their liking.

Good luck in your decision and please do try to consult with at least two more PS's.  If you need some names just email MemberReferrals@BreastHealthOnline.com with where you are looking for PS's and we should be able to pass on a few names.

Again, welcome and please make yourself right at home!  BreastHealthOnline is a great place to gather information and surround yourself with support.

Hi Twinsmom,

Welcome to BreastHealthOnline.  It's great to have you here.  You've already gotten some good advice about when FNG is necessary.  Your left N2N measurement is just short of what's recommended for a FNG, but if you want the C cup then it can be an appropriate choice. Make sure it's an informed choice.  Read the FNG FAQ and consider how small you want to be.   It sounds like you've got twins.  Do you want more children, and if so, do you want to breastfeed them?  If you have the FNG you will not be able to breastfeed.  We do recommend that you see at least 3 PS before making a decision. Perhaps another surgeon would be able to take you to a C cup with a pedicle technique.

I had a FNG in November and went from a 40H/I to a 38B and couldn't be happier. I would not have been happy at a D cup and I'm not sure about a C cup either. I'd do it again in a nanosecond, but my youngest child will soon be 25 so breastfeeding was not a concern for me. Thank heaven!  Just wish I had done it earlier. The size is wonderful, there were no healing problems, not one and my back, neck, shoulder and jaw pain is gone.

Let us know how you make out.
