Topic 2nd MARCH is my day! (207 hits) Previous Next Up

By button00 On 02/03/10 10:51 am
Had my consultation at the Golden Jubilee in Glasgow today, and am now all set for my BR which will be on the 2nd March!!!! That's less than 4 weeks! I have to go in on the 1st March for my pre-admissions assessment and then I will be housed in the adjoining hotel for free overnight before my surgery...

I also met my surgeon today: Mr Mohammad Ali Jawad - does anyone have any experience of him? I have done my research since getting home and have found him to be the director of a private cosmetic surgery company (Nip n tuck) and he has also apparently featured on a channel 4 documentary about a girl who had very bad burns on her face, and he done the reconstruction - so he seems quite impressive. He was a very nice man, and he also seemed confident that a C would be achievable, when all the other consultants I've spoken to so far have said only a D or DD at most could be promised, because it was about removing fatty tissue and I don't have very much fatty tissue so only so much could be removed.... My own research has always led to the conclusion that removing glandular tissue can be done and that it is in fact more beneficial because it is the heavy stuff, so this has by far been the most confusing aspect of BR for me so far! But he seemed confident that a C could be achieved so fingers crossed!

Golden Jubilee hospital - it was my first trip there today, and it is a lovely hospital, very nice, and huge!

So all is looking positive, I just need to overcome my nerves and prepare myself... I was only going for a consultation today and my boyfriend told me I looked sick while we were waiting! Hospitals just make me very nervous!

A few questions: I told Mr. Jawad that I'm currently on the pill, but he didn't mention anything about coming off the pill before surgery, although doctors always recommend coming off before surgery - should I come off anyway just to be sure?

And second: He gave no preference to post-op bras; i'm not sure if the nurse will specify any at my pre-admissioins assessment, but that won't give me much time to buy, so suggestions on that front are also welcome!

Thanks!

Hi Button,

You lucky thing! I told you it was a lovely hospital.

With regards to bras; I was advised that i should buy a sports bra in my band size ina d cup!!! hooray!
They recommended m&s zip up ones, but there isn't any in stock. (I will buy these next time I go shopping)

I opted to buy 2 shock absober level 4 from figleaaves, they were £25 each but they have a speical on, buy one et one half price.

There is also free posting on money saving expert for figleaves to save you a bit.

So best of luck, take care.

Hi Button - congratulations on getting your date.

One of the things that impressed me about my PS was that I told him I wanted to be a B and he said no problem.  It was really important to me that I be made small and B was the cup size I wanted.  My view was that if I don't get down to a B after the swelling subsides, at least I will be a C, rather than asking for a C and ending up a D - does that make sense    He understood that I wanted to be small and perky

I completey messed up sports bras and ended up panic buying loads.  I bought some of those crop top bras that you have to lift your arms up to get on, my nurse at the pre-appointment said that was no good and I wouldn't be able to get them on.  So trip to Bluewater and I bought a couple of M&S bras which I didn't realise at the time, had a cross over bit at the top of the straps that was fixed and would mean I would have to lift my arms up to get it on, so again no good.  This was the Sunday before the op on Wednesday.  Frantic internet shopping and bought a couple of Nike bras from ASOS on express delivery.  It was only when I had to try and put the bra on post op that we realised it was waaaay too small.  My absolutely wonderful nurse went out to the local M&S and bought another 34C which fitted perfectly.  Moral to this rather lengthy story - sort your bras out first.  I could now set up a stall selling sports bras  Oh and also, I had absolutely no problem lifting my arms over my head so the orginal bras I bought would have been fine !!!

I also bought a couple of the shelf type vest tops from M&S which seem to be as supportive as a sports bra and I tend to wear these at night.  They were about £9.00 each.  White with a bit of a frill at the neckline and a few buttons.

Good luck and get the size boobs that you want.

Bo x

Hi Button,

I had a similar experience to you. I had my pre op day before my actual surgery and was given a piece of paper with a choice of three bra's on that my ps wanted me to wear. I ended up having a impromptu shopping trip on the night. Be careful what you are spending in case your surgeon wants you to wear a particular style or type. Mine was a high impact sports bra from M&S, a pack of two medium impact sports bra's from M&S, ( I have this on in one of my pics if you have picture access) and a shock absorber from debenhams own range. The two M&S ones are lovely and soft and by far the most comfortable I have bought. I have got a sports bra from Matalan and one from Asda George but they are the type with little air holes under the boob area and as your boobies swell in to the cups throughout the day the pattern becomes imprinted on your skin. I was a 32FF and got a 34d, I now have a 34c as well and a 36c. A good purchase is a bra extender clip, some evenings my bra was tight, cups were fine but the band was too tight. If I had had one of these from the start I would not have needed to buy the 36c. I have never had a problem fastening them at the back either.
