Hi Lyns I have a consultation with Lisa Sacks on Monday 1 February. It will cost £130 and last a minimum of 40 minutes. I booked it about three weeks ago. I am going to discuss a revision (original BR elsewhere in 2001) but it may be a complete 'redo'. If you email her office, the practice manager will be able to answer some of your more general questions and about timescales. I will be posting on the board after my consult. Best wishes Jem |

I would never encourage anyone to get into debt, so what I'm about to say isn't advice - it's just what I did, OK? I paid for my BR (£5000) on a credit card. Then I applied for another card with the longest 0% balance transfer rate I could find, and transferred the cost of the BR onto it. I am VERY organised about making payments, and I paid WAY over the minimum every month. When the 0% rate came to an end I applied for another 0% card, and bounced the debt onto it. It took me a year or so to pay it all off. I NEVER used these card to buy things!!! This is very important. They were cut up at once and thrown away. But borrowing £5000 in this way only cost me about £50 all told. It's a very cheap way to borrow money, BUT you MUST be strict about keeping up payments on time every month and watching for the 0% to end. If you're thinking of saving up, you could use the money you'd be saving (which will earn nothing in interest) to make the payment every month. But hey, I'm not a financial adviser so take no notice of what I say! |

Just pasting what I wrote on the other thread about costs etc as there are two threads on the go about the same topic I'm almost certain Nuffield have an interst-free payment plan but only over 10 months so that would be a huge monthly payment. I will have to pay for myself and if I need a lift as opposed to a revision, it will be about £4800. I plan to save as much as I can and spread the rest of the cost as best I can. Because of work commitments and other issues I won't be planning to have anything done until July but the consultation next week will clarify what needs doing to correct my BR issues. (What I did when stuck with a big car loan when my husband left in 2002 was transfer it to an interest free credit card and I kept chipping away at it monthly and moved it to a new CC when interest became payable. I wouldn't recommend this unless you are very very disciplinedd though   You could go ahead with a consultation now and specify you would like to wait until later in the year for the actual surgery ~ you would be seen again nearer the time for a pre-op appointment. At least you would know exactly what the costs would be and it would inspire you to get saving! Because it is private, you are not obliged to have it done as quickly as the surgeon can fit you in. For my original BR, I had my consultation with Harley Medical in the June and opted to have the op in late October (again to fit around work and family commitments). Good luck! (LallyBlois ~ I will most likely be doing what you did with the credit cards)! Jem x |

Hi, I had my breast reduction at Plymouth Nuffield earlier this month with Mr James McDiarmid. He is extremely professional, supremely confident in his ability which I found totally reasurring and I have had no post operative problems at all. I spent two nights in the hospital (which is the time allocated in the cost of £5695) but actually felt well enough to go home the next day. At only 3 weeks post op, I am over the moon with the results and can only say that if I had known it would be this easy I would have had it done years ago. I went for my consultation at McDiarmid Hall clinic last November armed with a list of questions, but Mr McDiarmid covered everything before I had even asked any of them! It was totally thorough and unrushed and I came away fully informed and telephoned to book my op the next day! I can't recommend him highly enough. I saved for the op but the idea of an interest free credit card is good if as long as you can afford to pay it off in the allocated time. Good luck and don't worry about the op, you won't regret it!! ps His clinic has a very good website www.mhclinic.co.uk and he also works in Cheltenham |
